Westerlies affect much of the country on Sunday as a low approaches the South Island from the west. The low and an associated front move east across New Zealand during Monday, followed by southwesterlies.

Forecast: Friday: Northwest 20 knots changing southwest 15 knots early afternoon, becoming southwest 20 knots by early evening. Moderate sea easing for a time this afternoon. Poor visibility in rain, easing to showers this afternoon. Chance thunderstorm. Saturday: Southwest 20 knots. Sea moderate. Fair visibility in a few early showers, then fine.
