Situation: A series of weak troughs affect the country over the next few days, along with a front moving north over the South Island on Friday and North Island on Saturday.A significant low deepens east of the country on Sunday, then moves away to the east as a ridge gradually builds over New Zealand.

Forecast: Strong wind advisory. Thursday: Northeast 15 knots. Sea slight. Cloudy periods, with fair visibility in a few showers. Friday: Northeast 15 knots, rising to easterly 20 knots in the afternoon, and to northeast 25 knots gusting 35 knots early evening. Sea becoming rough early evening. Poor visibility in rain, heavy at times.

Outlook: Outlook until midnight Monday: Saturday: Changing southwest 20 knots early morning, tending northwest 15 knots in the evening. Fine spells and isolated showers. Sunday: Becoming westerly 20 knots, changing southeast 20 knots later. Rain developing early, easing in the afternoon. Monday: Southeast 20 knots, easing to 15 knots later. Mainly fine. Isolated morning showers.
