Situation: A ridge of high pressure persists over most the country today, while a low and associated fronts move onto the South Island. The frontal system then moves onto the North Island Saturday night and slowly moves east across the North Island Sunday and Monday. Another front approaches the Far South later Monday.

Forecast: Friday: Variable 5 knots. Sea slight. Fine weather. Saturday: Variable 5 knots, becoming northerly 10 knots for a time in the afternoon and early evening. Sea slight. Fine weather.

Outlook: Outlook until midnight Tuesday: Sunday: Northerly 15 knots developing in the morning, rising to 20 knots overnight. A few showers. Monday: Northerly 20 knots, changing northwest 10 knots later. Rain, possibly heavy, easing later. Tuesday: Northerly 10 knots, changing southwest 15 knots. Showers, clearing later.

Swell: Swell forecast to midnight Tuesday: Northeast half a metre, rising to 1 metre for a time Monday.
