Warning: GALE warning for PLENTY

Situation: A broad trough moves east across New Zealand today, followed by a narrow ridge on Saturday. Westerlies affect much of the country on Sunday as a low approaches the South Island from the west. The low and an associated front move east across New Zealand during Monday, followed by southwesterlies.

Forecast: Friday: Northwest 20 knots changing southwest 15 knots this afternoon, rising to 20 knots this evening. Moderate sea easing for a time this afternoon. Fair visibility in showers, clearing overnight tonight. Saturday: Southwest 20 knots. Sea moderate. Fine.

Outlook: Outlook until midnight Tuesday: Sunday: Tending westerly 20 knots morning, easing to 15 knots late. Mainly fine. Monday: Northwest 20 knots turning southwest 15 knots. Odd morning shower, then fine. Tuesday: Southwest 15 knots gradually dying out. Fine.

Swell: Swell forecast to midnight Tuesday: Northerly 2 to 2.5 metres easing to 1 metre late Saturday and to half a metre Sunday, rising to 1 metre again for a time Monday.
