Situation: A cold front moves off the North Island to the east today and a disturbed southwest flow covers the country. The southwesterlies ease on Thursday, and a ridge of high pressure moves onto the country on Friday.

Forecast: Strong wind advisory. Monday: Westerly 25 knots gusting 35 knots, becoming southwest 20 knots gusting 30 knots but 25 knots gusting 35 knots west of Motiti Island this evening. Sea rough at times.Cloudy periods, fair visibility a few showers. Tuesday: Southwest 20 knots gusting 30 knots but 25 knots gusting 35 knots west of Motiti Island, becoming westerly 25 knots gusting 35 knots everywhere in the morning, then southwest 25 knots gusting 35 knots but 30 knots gusting 45 knots in the west early afternoon. Becoming southwest 25 knots gusting 35 knots everywhere late evening. Rough sea in the west, becoming rough everywhere early afternoon. Poor visibility in afternoon showers, otherwise mainly fine.
