Situation: A ridge of high pressure persists over most the country today, while a low and associated fronts move onto the South Island. The frontal system then moves onto the North Island Saturday night and slowly moves east across the North Island Sunday and Monday. Another front approaches the Far South later Monday.

Forecast: Friday: Northeast 10 knots easing to variable 5 knots this evening. Sea slight. Fine spells increasing. Saturday: Becoming northerly 10 knots early morning, and rising to 15 knots in the afternoon. Changing to westerly 15 knots late evening. Sea slight. Increasing high cloud.

Outlook: Outlook until midnight Tuesday: Sunday: Becoming southerly 20 knots in the morning, easing to 15 knots in the evening. Rain, some heavy falls. Monday: Southerly 15 knots, gradually dying out. A few showers, clearing by evening. Tuesday: Variable 5 knots. Morning low cloud then fine spells.
