Situation: High pressure over New Zealand moves away today, as a complex low pressure system approaches from the Tasman Sea. The low and associated fronts become slow-moving on Friday, then become confined to the North Island over the weekend,while high pressure builds further south. The high spreads over the remainder of New Zealand on Monday.

Forecast: Thursday: Northeast 10 knots, rising to 20 knots this evening. Sea becoming moderate this evening. Fine with high cloud. Friday: Becoming northwest 10 knots in the morning. Moderate sea, easing in the morning. Fine.

Outlook: Outlook until midnight Monday: Saturday: Northwest 10 knots, changing southwest 10 knots in the morning,turning southeast 10 knots late. Mainly fine, some high cloud. Sunday: Turning northeast 10 knots in the morning, then easing to variable 5 knots late. Cloudy periods. Monday: Southwest 15 knots developing early, then easing to 15 knots later. The odd morning shower, then cloudy periods.
