Situation: A couple of weak fronts move northwards off the North Island today as a ridge over the South Island spreads north. Another front moves onto the South Island on Friday, then weakens and stalls on Saturday as the ridge persists over central and northern New Zealand through the weekend. Yet another front moves onto the South Island on Sunday,then the North Island Monday as a ridge builds over the south.

Forecast: Strong Wind Advisory. Thursday: Northeast 25 knots gusting 35 knots, easing to 15 knots late evening. Rough sea easing late evening. Mainly fine. Friday: Northeast 10 knots, rising to 15 knots in the afternoon, then changing westerly 10 knots in the evening. Sea slight. Fine with high cloud.

Outlook: Outlook until midnight Monday: Saturday: Southwest 10 knots becoming northeast 15 knots in the afternoon.Becoming fine. Sunday: Northeast 15 knots, turning southwest 15 knots late. Cloud increasing, rain developing. Monday: Southwest rising to 20 knots for a time early, becoming northeast 10 knots late. Periods of rain, clearing later.

Swell: Swell forecast to midnight Monday: Easterly 1 metre, gradually easing to half a metre through Friday and Saturday, then rising to 1 metre again Sunday.
