Situation: An active front moves east across New Zealand today. A complex trough moves onto the country during Saturday, then moves northwards during Sunday, leaving a southerly flow over the South Island.

Forecast: Thursday: Northwest 20 knots gusting 30 knots, easing to northerly 15 knots this afternoon. Moderate sea easing this afternoon. Fine, with high cloud at times. Friday: Northerly 15 knots, rising to 20 knots for a time in the morning,then easing to 10 knots in the evening. Sea becoming moderate for a time in the morning. Fine, with high cloud at times.

Outlook: Outlook until midnight Monday: Saturday: Northeast 10 knots, turning southwest 10 knots late. Cloud increasing, late rain. Sunday: Southwest rising to 15 knots in the morning. Showers. Monday: Southwest 15 knots easing to 10 knots late. Showers.
