Situation: A trough moves slowly northwards over the South Island today,then covers much of the country through the weekend. A ridge spreads onto the South Island from the west on Monday.
Forecast: Strong wind advisory. Friday: Easterly 15 knots becoming northeast 25 knots gusting 35 knots this morning, easing to 15 knots this afternoon. Changing southerly 15 knots late evening. Sea becoming rough this morning, easing in the afternoon. Cloudy, a few spots of rain morning and afternoon.
Outlook: Outlook until midnight Monday: Saturday: Becoming northeast 15 knots early, turning northwest 10 knots late. Cloudy periods. Sunday: Changing southwest 25 knots in the morning, easing to 20 knots late. A period of rain, followed by showers. Monday: Southwest 15 knots dying out in the morning, northeast 15 knots developing later. Showers clearing and becoming fine.
