Situation: A broad trough moves east across New Zealand today, followed by a narrow ridge on Saturday. Westerlies affect much of the country on Sunday as a low approaches the South Island from the west. The low and an associated front move east across New Zealand during Monday, followed by southwesterlies.

Forecast: Friday: Southwest 10 knots rising to 15 knots for a time this afternoon and evening. Sea slight. Mainly fine, low cloud developing this evening. Saturday: Southwest 10 knots dying out late morning. Northeast 10 knots developing in the afternoon, easing to variable 5 knots in the evening. Sea slight. Morning cloud then fine.

Outlook: Outlook until midnight Tuesday: Sunday: Westerly 10 knots turning northerly 10 knots evening. Fine. Monday: Changing southwest 20 knots. Rain developing afternoon. Tuesday: Easing to southwest 10 knots early, becoming northerly 10 knots late. Becoming fine.
