North Island

Raukumara to Whirinaki Forest Park: Fine apart from cloudy periods about western slopes, with isolated showers there tomorrow. Remaining North Island mountain areas: Cloudy periods and isolated showers. Showers becoming more widespread later tomorrow. WINDS: Westerlies rising to gale, and becoming severe in exposed places south of the central volcanoes tomorrow.

Freezing Level: Above 3000 metres.

South Island

Kaikoura Ranges: Fine. Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes National Parks, and the Southern Alps: Showers, some heavy tomorrow, with snow to 1700 metres about Mt Aspiring. Fiordland mountains: Heavy rain developing this evening with snow to 1600 metres, easing to showers tomorrow morning but returning in the evening, with snow to 1100 metres. WINDS: Westerlies rising to severe gale in exposed places.

Freezing Level: 3000 metres in the north sloping to 2000 metres in the south. lowering to 1400 metres in the south.
