North Island

Rain with heavy falls, and snow falling to about 2000 metres, gradually clearing from the south, followed by scattered showers and snow lowering to 1000 metres tonight. Showers tomorrow with heavy falls and snow lowering to 600 metres at night. Winds: Gale northwesterlies, severe in exposed places. Changing gale westerly this evening, rising to severe gale tomorrow.

Freezing Level: 1300 metres, lowering to 900 metres.

South Island

Kaikoura ranges: A few showers from afternoon with snow to about 1000 metres. Fine at first tomorrow, then showers from afternoon with snow to 600 metres. Fiordland, and Mount Aspiring National Park: Snow showers, with possible thunderstorms. Remaining areas: Occasional showers, turning to snow showers tomorrow. Winds: Strong westerlies, rising to gale tomorrow.

Freezing Level: Lowering to 1000 metres in the north and 400 metres in the south.
