North Island

Rain, possibly heavy about Egmont National Park and the Tararua Range, easing to a few showers this evening. Cloudy with patchy drizzle tomorrow morning, then increasing fine spells. However,scattered rain developing Egmont National Park to Kaweka Range northwards at night. WINDS: Gale or severe gale northwesterlies easing this afternoon and evening. Winds mainly light tomorrow, northerlies developing later.

Freezing Level: 2300 metres.

South Island

Kaikoura ranges: Remaining showers clearing this afternoon and becoming fine, with high cloud. Remaining South Island mountain areas: Periods of rain with heavy falls and isolated thunderstorms. Snow lowering to 1000 metres in the south. Rain easing to isolated showers north of Arthurs Pass tomorrow morning, and north of Mt Cook in the evening. WINDS: Severe gale northwesterlies, gradually easing today, then tening northerly tomorrow.

Freezing Level: About 2000 metres.
