North Island

Raukumara to Kaweka ranges: Scattered showers, turning to heavy rain for a time tomorrow. Remaining North Island mountain areas: Showers, turning to heavy rain for a time tonight or early tomorrow. Snow lowering to 900 metres about the Tararua range. WINDS: Gale northwesterlies, severe gale in exposed places about and south of the volcanoes until early tomorrow.

Freezing Level: 2200 metres, lowering to 1800 metres but 1400 metres in the south.

South Island

Kaikoura ranges, Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes National Parks: Rain, heavy and possibly thundery about Kahurangi, clearing the Kaikoura ranges overnight. Snow lowering to 800 metres tomorrow. Southern Alps and Fiordland: Rain with heavy and possibly thundery falls, turning to snow about Fiordland this evening and elsewhere tomorrow. WINDS: Gale northwesterlies, severe gale in exposed places until early morning, turning southerly south of Mt Cook tomorrow.

Freezing Level: Lowering to 1000 metres.
