North Island

North Island: Periods of rain, with heavy falls about Egmont National Park, and also from the Ruahine Range southwards. WINDS: Strong northwesterlies, rising to severe gale about Egmont National Park this afternoon, and elsewhere by evening.

Freezing Level: Above 4000 metres.

South Island

Fiordland and Mount Aspiring National Parks: Cloudy with a few showers. Remaining South Island areas: Rain becoming persistent and heavy, with snow lowering to 1200 metres south of Mount Cook this morning. WINDS: Strong southeasterlies, rising to severe gale in exposed places around the middle of the day.

Freezing Level: About 3500 metres sloping to 2000 metres about arthurs pass, and to 1400 metres about fiordland.
